The number of cancer patients may increase by more than 75 percent

By 2050, the number of cancer patients worldwide may increase by more than 75 percent. The World Health Organization reported this information.

According to the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the number of cancer cases and deaths worldwide in 2012 was 14.1 million and 8.2 million, respectively. After a decade, this number increased to 20 million and 9.7 million respectively.

The agency said in a forecast that the number of cancer patients could rise to 35 million by 2050, at least 77 percent more than in 2022.

According to the IARC, tobacco use, alcohol consumption and obesity are among the reasons for the increase in cancer patients. Aging and population growth are also responsible for this.

It is estimated that 4.8 million more people will be diagnosed with cancer by 2050 in high-income countries. However, low-income countries will be most affected. It has also been reported that cancer death rates may double in poorer countries.

IARC monitors cancer worldwide. They work with 36 types of cancer in 185 countries. It has also been reported that people are more affected and dying from 10 types of cancer.

Blood cancer can be completely cured with proper treatment

In the survey in Bangladesh, men's esophagus, oral cavity and lung cancer and women's breast, uterus or cervical mouth cancer lead, but the severity of blood cancer is not less in any part. However, the good news is that in this era of modern medical care, it is possible to completely recover from blood cancer if the disease is diagnosed correctly in the early stages and treated properly. For this there is no substitute for the necessary infrastructure as well as skilled manpower.

Specialist doctors said these things in a discussion meeting organized by Hematology Department of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital yesterday on the occasion of World Cancer Day. Mohammad Golam Rabbani said, blood cancer called Leukemia/Lymphoma/Myeloma can be cured if the disease is correctly diagnosed in the early stages. Along with creating necessary infrastructure along with bringing equality in cancer treatment, skilled specialist manpower must be created.
