Ways to retain memory

Many people with poor memory suffer from depression. Various studies have shown that eating a balanced diet and living a healthy lifestyle are very beneficial in maintaining memory.

Ways to improve memory:

1) Practice exercise, meditation and mindfulness.

2) Include a handful of almonds, pumpkin seeds, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries etc. in your daily diet.

3) Avoid refined carbohydrates, sugar, fast food and drugs.

4) Listen to music occasionally. Research says that the brain becomes active while listening to music.

5) Whenever you read, visualize it.

6) Sufficient sleep is essential. Because what you read throughout the day, is stored as memory in the 'deep sleep' stage of your sleep. And insufficient sleep is very harmful.

7) Supplementation of fish and fish oil is very beneficial in improving memory. It contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are very beneficial for memory. For example: marine fish, roe-cut fish etc.

8) Maintain moderate weight.

9) Brain also has some exercises, they should be practiced daily. These are called brain training programs/brain exercises. Like—puzzles, crosswords, word-recall games, Tetris, Scrabble, chess, and there are also various brain training apps online.

10) Keep the level of vitamin D in the blood normal.

11) Eat foods rich in anti-oxidants. For example: Broccoli.

12) Eat foods rich in flavonoids. Dark chocolate contains an ingredient called cocoa, which is rich in flavonoids.

13) Always be constructive and learn something new. Practice what you learn again. It will form synapses in the brain, which are essential for memory. Eg: New language.

14) Use five senses carefully. Again, try doing something with your eyes closed, or try to do the same thing with the other hand that you regularly use your hand for. And sometimes practice multitasking. These will activate parts of the brain that are normally inactive.

15) Maintain confidence.

16) Curcumin is found in turmeric root. It is powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. It is very effective in enhancing memory.

17) Eat foods rich in flaxseed, alpha linoleic acid. For example, walnuts.

18) Try to talk to new people every day.

19) Always practice writing something.
