An Australian doctor has been cured of cancer
after using a treatment method he invented. Professor Richard Scolaire, who was
suffering from brain cancer, was treated with the method he invented.
He himself has stated that even after a
year of treatment, he is still cancer-free. This means that the deadly disease
has not re-established itself in his body.
Richard Scolaire fell ill
while visiting Poland last year. He was later diagnosed with grade 4 cancer.
This cancer is known as glioblastoma. It is so deadly that a person who is
infected with this cancer can live for a year or 12 months at most.
The 57-year-old doctor
researched melanoma, a type of cancer that starts in the skin, and has since
discovered a new way to treat it.
On Monday (May 13), Richard
Scolaire posted on social media X. There, he said that the latest MRI showed
that the cancer had not returned to his brain.
“I’m very happy,” he said. Professor Scolaire worked on this together with
his colleague Professor Georgina Long, both of whom are co-directors of the
Australian Melanoma Institute.
They used a method based on
immunotherapy, which teaches the body's immune system to attack cancer cells.
Research on melanoma has
shown that immunotherapy works better when various drugs are applied to cancer
cells before surgery.
Professor Scolaire is the
only brain cancer patient in the world to have undergone immunotherapy
treatment before surgery.
He told the British media
outlet BBC, "I've been feeling pretty good for a long time. It's not like
I'm cured of my cancer. But it's good to know that the cancer hasn't come back.
Which means I can spend more time with my wife Katie and my three beautiful
children."
It is estimated that around
300,000 people worldwide are affected by glioblastoma. Professor Scolaire's
method is expected to increase life expectancy and open up new avenues for
treatment. Source: BBC
