Weight loss drugs are being studied in various directions. A few days ago, a new drug was also launched in the country's market. Apart from that, there is no end to the discussion about Ozempic. From ordinary people to celebrities, many claim that taking Ozempic will help you lose weight quickly. These drugs do reduce fat, but they also increase the risk of various other diseases. For example, bone loss.

Doctors claim that taking weight loss drugs in high doses continuously increases the risk of developing a bone disease called osteoporosis. Drugs like Ozempic can reduce weight a lot in a very short period of time. Suppose, after starting taking the drug, it was found that within a month, the weight had decreased quite a bit. The body also feels lighter. And seeing the same, you started taking the drug continuously with great enthusiasm. The problem that will arise in this is that the weight will not decrease consistently. Sometimes less, sometimes a lot of weight will decrease. This will start wasting muscles, there will be changes in metabolism. As a result, various physical problems will arise.

Osteopath Subrata Gorai agrees on this. He says, if you have a balanced diet and exercise, you will lose weight in a consistent manner. But the medicine suddenly reduces the metabolic rate. As a result, your appetite decreases. And suddenly you start losing weight. This affects your bones. On the one hand, as your muscles start to deteriorate, your bone density also decreases. The risk of diseases like osteoporosis increases.

The main components of bones are calcium and phosphorus. Apart from this, there are various types of minerals. When calcium and other bone components decrease due to various reasons, the bones become brittle, resulting in an increased risk of breaking due to minor injuries. This is called osteoporosis. Medicine doctor Arunanshu Talukder says that weight loss drugs disrupt the hormonal balance in the body. For example, when the levels of estrogen hormone in women and testosterone hormone in men decrease, the process of calcium and phosphorus absorption in the body is disrupted. As a result, bone density starts to decrease. Bones become brittle and the risk of osteoporosis increases. This risk is higher for those who have been taking weight loss drugs continuously for more than three months. Therefore, doctors advise losing weight through diet control and exercise instead of medication.
