Almost everyone knows about the importance of
vitamin K. This vitamin helps blood clot in case of bleeding.
Many studies have also shown that vitamin
K helps keep bones healthy. A new study by Danish researchers at Copenhagen
University Hospital and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark suggests that
there is a link between vitamin K deficiency and poor lung health.
For this study, lung
function tests were performed on nearly 4,000 participants aged 24 to 77. Their
blood samples were also taken. The researchers reached this conclusion based on
the tests on them.
Participants answered a
series of questions about their health and lifestyle. The results of the study
are published in the journal ERJ Open Research. "To our knowledge, this is
the first study involving so many people on vitamin K and lung function,"
said Dr. Torkil Jespersen, one of the research team. It showed that vitamin K
may play a role in keeping the lungs healthy. More research is needed to see
whether people with lung problems will benefit from taking vitamin K
supplements.
