At what age is it necessary to have a health check-up?

As we age, various physical problems increase. Today we have a stomach ache, tomorrow we have knee pain. Very few people try to know or understand what is causing the problem. Most people have the habit of taking medicine on their own when they are sick.

Or they buy and take the same medicines that the doctor prescribed before. This does not make the body better, but rather the problems worsen day by day.

According to medical experts, there is no specific age for a health check-up. Health check-ups may be required at any age for multiple reasons.

For example, to prevent any disease, health checkups are needed as a precautionary measure, which is called preventive measures.

If you think that you will go for a health check-up only when you are 40 or 50, then you will be wrong. By that time, various complex diseases can take root in the body. You should get your blood sugar, hemoglobin, TSH, vitamin D, calcium, lipid profile test, high blood pressure, ECG, vision and hearing checked once a year.

After the age of 20

  • Blood pressure and complete blood count (CBC): This will determine whether there is a risk of anemia, infection, or hypertension.
  • Blood sugar test: Needed to know if you are pre-diabetic.
  • Lipid profile: It is important to know the amount of cholesterol in the blood and heart health.
  • Thyroid function test: T3, T4, TSH tests are performed to detect thyroid problems.
  • Vitamin D and B12 Test: Very important health test.

·         Today's children are accustomed to eating unhealthy foods, so it is important to know whether they are vitamin deficient.

·           STI: A large proportion of patients with various sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are now young. The disease is increasing due to young age of sexual activity, multiple partners, unprotected sex and lack of awareness about safe sex. Therefore, it is very important to get tested.

After 30 years

  • Blood sugar and cholesterol tests: The risk of diabetes increases after the age of thirty. Therefore, it is important to get these two tests done.
  • Blood Pressure: It is important to know whether your blood pressure is fluctuating or not.
  • Liver and kidney function test: Liver function test is important to know whether there is a fatty liver problem or not. Apart from that, ultrasound can be done. For the kidneys, it is important to get a kidney function test or renal function test done. Apart from this, a urinary albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR) test should also be done.

fter 40 years

  • Pap smear and HPV test: This will determine whether there is a risk of cervical cancer.
  • Mammogram: It is very important for women to get a mammogram and breast MRI scan after consulting a doctor.
  • Eye and dental exams: You should get tested for myopia, hyperopia, and presbyopia. These three tests are used to check the quality of your vision.
  • Heart tests: ECG, treadmill test, echocardiogram, cholesterol test must be done. Regular blood serum, lipid tests must be done. If bypass surgery was done at a young age, then the test needs to be done again. Even after bypass, there is still a possibility of heart attack.
  • Hormonal Tests: Hormones start to fluctuate after the age of thirty. Therefore, it is important to get some hormone tests done after consulting a doctor.
  • Bone Density Test: A bone mineral density test should be done after the age of forty to know the state of bone health.
